Personal Attributes

A personal attribute is a quality or characteristic inherent to someone.  Attributes embody attitudes, beliefs and skills.  Personal attributes are the distinguishing characteristics that make you “you.”  They can often predict how a person will act or react to certain situations.

Personality traits can be interpreted as both positive and negative. For instance, being critical could be a plus for an editor of a publishing company or a building inspector.  However, could be negative you are coaching a team.

Personal attributes can also be constant or changing.  For example, a person may be very adventurous when they are young, but become more tentative as they get older.

Knowing your personal attributes can help in your decision making.  It is also helpful to know how others view you.

Value and Principle Assessment

Your values are a central part of who you are and who you want to be.  They are the guiding principles that you believe are important in the way you live your life.  They are your deepest held beliefs.

When your activities and your behavior match your values you are satisfied and content.  But when your life is not aligned with your values, you will feel frustrated and unhappy.  If you value spending time with your family, but you have to work long hours every week, you probably will feel stressed and conflicted.

It is important to make a conscious effort to know and focus on your personal values.  By becoming more aware of your values, you discover what is truly important to you and you can use them to make decisions about how to live your life.  When you focus on your values, you are more likely to accomplish what you consider is most important.

Emotional Awareness

Emotional awareness is the ability to recognize and express what emotions you are feeling and why, as well as understanding the connection between your emotions and resulting actions.  Whether we are aware of them or not, our emotions influence most of what we do.  Emotions are often what drives our behavior and determine our passions and what motivates us.  They are also the foundation of our ability to understand ourselves and relate to others.  That is why it is important to gain a full understanding of your emotions and how they relate to our actions.

Tendencies and Habits

We all have tendencies and habits.  They affect how we act or react to different circumstances or how we think in certain situations.  Some habits and tendencies are good and have a positive impact, while others may not be advantageous and have a negative effect.

Knowing what your particular habits or tendencies are can help you predict how you will act in a certain situation.  By knowing this, you can modify your thoughts and behaviors to get your desired outcome in the situation.

We can also create new positive habits to replace existing negative ones.  The more positive habits you can develop the more enriched your daily life will be.

Need Assessment

Many of our tendencies may be based on our needs.  There are various psychological needs that drive our behaviors such as needs for esteem, love, belongingness, achievement, recognition, or power.  Knowing which needs exert the strongest influence on our behaviors helps us to understand how we might reaction in certain situations.

Needs and values are different.  You may have the need to not to make a mistake in front of others.  However, you may value the need to make mistake in order to learn.

Who you are

The final work sheet is a summation of person you see yourself as.
