It is important to identify what you are truly interested in and passionate about. It is those activities that will motivate you the most. The pure enjoyment you receive by doing those activities will provide intrinsic motivation to keep you moving in a positive direction with a lot of energy and enthusiasm. Also by knowing what you enjoy, you can focus your attention on doing more of those activities. The more activities you do that bring you joy and happiness, the better you feel about yourself and your life.
People often are encouraged to focus on and build upon what they are good at rather than what they enjoy. Exhibiting our strengths often bring accolades from others which will make us feel good. However, what we feel good about is not the activity itself, but rather the recognition and praise. You will never be motivated enough to reach your true potential if you are not doing something you are passionate about. It is best to focus on those activities that you are interested in versus those which you are good at.
“Not what we have, but what we enjoy, constitutes our abundance.” – Epicurus
