In order to become a successful learner, you need to understand your learning processes and learning how to learn.  You first need to start by understanding your own learning preferences, what interests and motivates you, your ability to learn, and your learning style.


Learning how to learn involves acquiring the knowledge and skills to learn effectively in various situations.  There are several resources that can help assess an individual’s learning style.  By understanding your own particular learning style, you can better understand your strengths and your limitations.  Then place yourself in a situation to be successful.


A part of learning how to learn, you will discover learning strategies that you will be able to employ in various situations to enhance your learning.  Learning strategies include note taking, study habits, test taking, collaboration, and other techniques to make instruction meaningful.
