Our Perspective on Personal Growth & Personal Fulfillment
We view personal growth and fulfilment as a multidimensional and dynamic process. The goal of the process is to have you improve yourself, your performance, and your life. The process is comprised of several elements that combine to make a more fulfilled life for you. We view the process as having a foundation as well as supports that help maintain personal development and its four phases.
Foundation of Self
We believe you must develop and balance all facets of yourself; mind, body, heart, and soul. We view these four facets or dimensions as your foundation to self. Some people believe the foundation of self is two dimensions; mind & body. Others may think of it as three dimensions; mind, body, & soul. We, however, view it as four dimensions.
Mind – Your dimension for building your mental attitude and mental strength. It is comprised of knowledge acquisition, learning enhancement, and mental conditioning.
Body – Your dimension involves caring for your physical body. This dimension is comprised of four main parts; health, nutrition, fitness, and relaxation.
Heart – Your emotional dimension. This dimension has two domains; a personal domain that centers on your emotions and a social domain that centers on your relationships with others.
Soul – Your soul is your spiritual dimension. Your soul is at the center or core of your being; it is who you truly are. It embodies your motives, your principles, your values, and is what guides you in your life.
The foundation of self has two pillars. These two pillars help balance personal development and growth. One pillar is Performance Improvement and the other is Life Enrichment. The Performance Improvement pillar supports mind and body, while the Life Enrichment supports heart and soul.
Life is not just about the growth you experience, but it is also about the depth of your experiences. Your growth should be like that of a strong healthy tree that grows tall as well as deep. The top of the tree grows and branches in many directions, while the base becomes deep rooted to support that upward growth.
Performance Improvement focuses on growing and improving both the mind and body. Life Enrichment concentrates on personal fulfillment by deepening the heart and soul.
Performance Improvement deals with enhancing your physical and mental performance by helping you analyze performance gaps and develop solutions so that you can perform at your peak potential. It focuses on knowledge acquisition, mental conditioning, as well as physical conditioning and strengthening.
Life Enrichment helps you create a complete and fulfilled life by discovering your purpose in life and finding ways for you to make a difference in your own life and in the lives of others whether it is through teaching, service, or simple acts of generosity.
Personal Development is what ties all four dimensions together. It connects the mind, body, heart, and soul. These four dimensions are connect by the four components the personal development process. These components are also phases in the development process. These elements/phases are:
Personal development process begins with self-discovery and continues to self-actualization.
Self-Discovery is the first phase of personal development. It is about the mind connecting to the soul. Your soul is the dimension that determines what you want your life to be ultimately about. Self-discovery is the process of gaining a deep understanding of our own self, character, needs, values, and purpose in life. It is finding out who you are, your personal interests, your values, your principles, as well as your hopes and dreams.
Self-Development is a process of growing your mind and developing your body. It involves expanding knowledge, improving personal skills, and developing competencies. It also encompasses maintaining your health, enhancing your physical fitness, and connecting your mind and body. After working to develop skills and abilities you can ultimately reach mastery. Mastery is the highest development of any skill. The goal of self-development is to reach mastery of your skills and abilities.
Self-mastery is the ability to recognize, understand, control, and make the most out of your physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual self. It is about connecting the mind and body to the heart and soul. Self-mastery is gained thorough awareness, understanding, and control over thoughts, emotions, and actions.
Self-Actualization is the final phase of the personal development process. Self-actualization is the realization of your fullest potential. It is the state of being when a person can confidently say, “I am being all that I am, and all that I was meant to be.”
Connecting the Core Dimensions to the Personal Development Process
Personal Development Plan
A comprehensive personal development plan should have several key components. These components include self-discovery, a development plan, periodic evaluations, and a continuous improvement plan.
Self Discovery is the process of gaining a deep understanding of our own self, character, needs, values, and purpose in life. It is a fundamental component of personal growth. Since we are all different in the way we think, feel, act, learn, and perceive the world, it is beneficial to take the time to reflect in order to gain a better insight into ourselves. Self discovery is a way for us to explore our individual personalities, natural preferences, values, beliefs, and dreams.
A personal Development Planis essentially turning your dreams into an action plan. A personal development Plan is a systematic approach to achieving your goals while building your personal effectiveness. It involves setting goals and crafting a structured plan for reaching those goals. In addition to goal setting, a successful plan involves enhancing skills and competencies. The key to any development plan is taking an action step toward the attainment of at least one goal every day.
Evaluation is the process of reviewing your actual results and comparing them against the development plan. The goal evaluation is to determine what needs to be modified in order to achieve the goals that were set in the plan. If adjustments need to be made to the plan, you can make those as you complete your evaluation.
Core Dimension Dynamics™ is the philosophy, principle, and process that empowers us to grow and develop ourselves and our lives through continuous improvement. We must consciously spend time and energy honing ourselves and our skills to maintain and increase our effectiveness. Dynamic Core Dimensions incorporates all four facets of self; mind, body, heart and soul.
About Personal Development
Our programs typically begin with self-discovery then evolve into the creation of a plan in which you set goals for yourself. Through self-discovery and goal setting you will build the foundation upon which you will create your destiny.
During self-discovery you will learn what makes you happy, what you value, what talents you have, and what you want to achieve in life. After you have discovered where you are and what you want to achieve, you will create a plan to accomplish those goals. You continuously modify the plan as you develop your skills and obtain feedback.
By creating and accomplishing goals, you are able to measure and take pride in your achievement. The process of setting and accomplishing goals not only allows you to achieve more and improve your performance, but gives you focus while building your self-confidence and self-esteem. And self-esteem is the keystone for self-actualization and personal fulfillment.
Our Personal Development program has four components:
Phases of Personal Development
Self-Discovery: Self-Discovery is the process of gaining a deep understanding of our own self, character, needs, values, and purpose in life. It also allows an individual to be more aware of his or her interests, hopes, dreams, and potential.
Self-Development: Self-Development is a process of consciously improving oneself in various aspects of his or her life. It is the conscious pursuit of personal growth by improving personal skills, competencies, talents, and knowledge in order to seek self-fulfillment and proactively reach your fullest potential.
Self-Mastery: Self-mastery is the ability to recognize, understand, control, and make the most out of his or her physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual self. It is gained thorough awareness, understanding, and control over thoughts, emotions, and actions.
Self-Actualization: Self-Actualization is seeking personal growth through peak experiences in order to realize his or her fullest potential and reach self-fulfillment. It is the state of being when a person can confidently say, “I am being all that I am, and all that I was meant to be.”
Four Phases of Personal Development
Personal Development begins with self-discovery. You first must find out where you are in order to move on from there. Self-Discovery allows you to gain a deep understanding of your own self, character, needs, values, and purpose in life. It also allows you to be more aware of your interests, hopes, dreams, and potential. Self-discovery involves taking time to deeply reflect on who you are, what you want to achieve, and the person you want to become.
After you discover who you are and where you are headed, you begin the self-development process by assessing your current skills and competencies. This involves gathering information about your aptitude, skills, competencies, and talents and critically reviewing them. This leads to the accumulation of self-knowledge. With self-knowledge you can understand your strengths, as well as identify areas where you would like to make improvements. It basically gives you the information needed to begin self-development.
About the Four Phases of Personal Development
Self-Development is the process of developing specific aspects of your mind and body. It is the pursuit of personal growth by enhancing your physical and mental skills, competencies, talents, and knowledge in order to seek self-fulfillment and proactively reach your fullest potential. Self-development is the actions leading to self-mastery and self-actualization.
Self-mastery is the ability to recognize, understand, control, and make the most out of your physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual self. It is gained thorough awareness, understanding, and control over thoughts, emotions, and actions. As your performance improves, your mastery of your skills and competencies also improve. As your skills improve, you achieve more and your self-confidence increases. An increased self-confidence leads to being happier and feeling more fulfilled in life. You ultimately reach self-actualization and realization of your full potential. As you reach self-actualization you are becoming everything that you are capable of becoming.
Self-Discovery is a lifelong journey of exploration through our inner self, trying to discover who we are, our potential, our purpose in life, and what core principles are guiding us to take different paths along the way. The journey starts with self awareness then explores personal interests as well as hopes and dreams for the future. The journey eventually leads us to self knowledge which will enable us to guide ourselves towards situations and experiences in which we will thrive.
Self-discovery is a fundamental component of personal growth. We must take the time to discovery who we are as a person. This is accomplished through self-reflection. Self-reflection allows us to think about and examine our actions, preferences, feeling, values, beliefs, emotions, and tendencies. Since we are all different in the way we think, feel, act, learn, and perceive the world, it is beneficial to take the time to reflect in order to gain a better insight into ourselves. Self-discovery is a way for us to explore our individual personalities, natural preferences, values, beliefs, preferred styles and tendencies. The ultimate destination of this journey is finding out who we are and what makes use unique.
“We must not cease from exploration and the end of all our exploring will be to arrive where we began and to know the place for the first time.” – TS Eliot
Process of Self-Discovery
The process of self-discovery is one in which a person is guided, through self-questioning and examination of one’s own thoughts, words, and actions, in order to reach his or her own conclusions regarding who they truly are. Through the process a person gains a deeper understanding of his or her own self, character, values, and purpose in life. He or she also becomes more aware of his or her potential.
“What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.” – Oliver Wendell Holmes
The Process of Self-Discovery is broken down into four segments;
Self-Awareness – Increasing understanding of who you are, your personal characteristics, your tendencies, your emotions, your needs, and your value.
Interest Awareness – Establishing your personal interests
Hopes and Dreams – Listing your hopes and dreams for the future.
Career Discovery – Finding a career that corresponds to your personality and interest.
“The purpose of life is to discover your gift. The meaning of life is to give it away.” -David Viscot
The first step in the self-discovery process is self-reflection. You must make the time to stop and really think about who you are. Quiet meditation and reflection will allow you to refocus your mind and concentrate on your inner self, and allow you to examine the way you “see” yourself. Self-Reflection allows you to explore your individual personality, natural preferences, values, beliefs, preferred styles and tendencies in order to become self-aware. You can also reflect on your personal interests, your dreams, and what you would like to do for a living.
“A man travels the world over in search of what he needs, and returns home to find it.” – George Moore
Self-Mastery is the ability to recognize, understand, control, and make the most out of your physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual self. It is gained thorough awareness, understanding, and control over your thoughts, emotions, and actions. Essentially, it gives you control over the one thing you can control in any given situation: yourself.
Self-mastery over your own thoughts, emotions, words, and actions can change and transform your life and yourself. When negative thoughts arise, emotions can become unsettled and your resulting actions can have negative consequences. With It will also help you control your emotional impulses and allow you to make decisions based on rational thinking instead of heightened emotions.
The road to self-mastery begins with self-awareness. Self-awareness is having an insightful understanding of your personality, values, tendencies, and beliefs. It is the process of analyzing your thoughts, beliefs, actions, and emotions to help you determine your values and principles. The more you understand yourself, the more control you will have over yourself and your life.
Self-awareness leads to the accumulation of self-knowledge. Self-knowledge identifies what you know about yourself. It is with self-knowledge that you can understand your principles, values, and purpose and are able to apply it to your life. With self-knowledge, you are able to understand your strengths to build upon, as well as identify areas where you may like to make improvements. With self-knowledge, you discover who you are and when you are at our best.
However, one of the problems with awareness and/or knowledge is that it does not require you to take any action. Without action, knowledge and awareness does not lead to change. The good thing is that once you develop your self-awareness and the skills to understand your core beliefs, then changing your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors becomes much easier. Acting on your self-knowledge allows you to reach your fullest potential and to become fulfilled and self-actualized.

Benefits of Self-Mastery
Self-mastery can help you develop habits, beliefs, and attitudes in order to create and live your life to the fullest. When you have developed this mastery, you will have the ability to control yourself in any given situation. You will be able to move easier forward towards your goals with discipline, persistence and focus. You will know your purpose, and you will have the self-confidence and self-discipline needed to do things in a conscious, focused, and purposeful way.
One of the greatest benefits of self-mastery is that it helps you have clarity on what is important to you. It teaches you to live in the present moment and helps you create more room in your life for feelings of gratitude, love, fulfillment, joy, and happiness.
Self-Actualization is seeking personal growth through peak experiences in order to realize your fullest potential and reach self-fulfillment. It is often thought of or viewed as a destination or a process, but it is really a state of being. It is when you can say, “I am being all that I am, and all that I was meant to be.”
We encourage people to seek and discover their destiny by seeking to discover themselves. Self-actualization is what we hope you ultimately reach. However, it is important to note that this is a continuous process of becoming rather than a final state of being that a person reaches and stays at.
Dr. Abraham Maslow first coined the term “self-actualization.” He believed human motivation is based on people seeking fulfillment and change through personal growth. Self-actualized people are those who are self-fulfilled and doing all they are capable of doing and becoming all they are capable of becoming. Dr. Maslow described self-actualization in the following way:
“A musician must make music, an artist must paint, a poet must write, if he is to be at peace with himself. What a man can be, he must be. This is the need we may call self-actualization… It refers to man’s desire for fulfillment, namely to the tendency for him to become actually in what he is potentially. This tendency might be phrased as the desire to become more and more what one is, to become everything that one is capable of becoming.”
The need for personal growth is present throughout a person’s life. For Maslow, a person is always “becoming” and never remains static. It is an ongoing process in which a person’s capacities are fully, creatively, and happily utilized. Through personal growth, a person is able to accomplish great things, building upon confidence, competence, and abilities. Eventually, a person comes to find a meaning to life that is important to them.
Maslow believes there are two processes necessary for self-actualization:
- self-exploration, and
The deeper the self-exploration, the closer one comes to self-actualization. Our road to self-actualization starts with self-discovery, and then goes through self-development (personal growth) into self-mastery before reaching self-actualization. Self-discovery is the explorations process, while self-development and self-mastery are the action segments.
Journey and Destination
As indicated, self-actualization can be thought of both as an end and a process. If you grow and develop in your daily life, you can become self-actualized. Hence, it can be said that you reached your destination. But it can also be perceived as a process because you do not arrive at a point in your life when you can say, “I am self-actualized. I don’t need any more personal growth.” You continue your personal growth and development even after you reach self-actualization. Basically, personal growth is the means to become self-actualized, but it is not the end to the means.
Self-actualization can be thought in relation to a journey through the woods. The journey represents your life. As you travel down the path of life, you have experiences, and from these experiences you learn and grow. If you walk or wander slowly without taking notices of your surroundings, you can limit your personal growth. You can also limit your personal growth by running through the path too fast and not paying attention, and potentially getting lost for a while.
If you move at a steady pace focusing on your surroundings and learning from your experiences, you will move in the direction of self-actualization. Because of your focus and continuous personal growth, you reach a river long the path. You may continue to take the path, or you can continue to your destination using a boat to take you down the river. The boat represents self-actualization. Basically, you have reached the destination of self-actualization. However, you are also still traveling along your path of personal growth, but doing it with comfort and ease. You are in the “flow” experience. If you do not take the boat, and keep walking, you will not be self-actualized. You will still have personal growth, but not self-actualization.
Destiny’s Odyssey is about creating your own destiny. A key part of that is personal development. Personal Development is the structured process of developing your skills and competencies by creating a plan with long term and short term goals.
“It is not in the stars to hold our destiny but in ourselves.” – William Shakespeare
This process begins with self-discovery and continues through to self-actualization. Self-discovery is the mind reflecting on and examining the soul, and discovering who you are and who you want to become. After you discover who you are and where you want to go, the next step is to improve your mind and body in order to accomplish those goals.
By systematically achieving your goals and mastering your abilities you become confident and emotionally content heart. Eventually, you become self-actualized in knowing that you become the best you could.
