Personal Mantra

A personal mantra is an affirmation to motivate and inspire you to be your best self. It is typically a positive phrase or statement that you use to affirm the way you want to live your life. Its purpose is to provide motivation and encouragement to you when you need to focus your mind to achieve a goal.

Mantras have been utilized around the world for thousands of years. People use personal mantras to help them retrain their thoughts to focus on positive outcomes in order to reach their goals or transform the way they want to live their lives. Personal mantras can inspire you to achieve your greatest potential.

A mantra is intended to use your thoughts as a guide. It can help center your mind. The true value of a mantra comes when it is audible, visible, and/or in your thoughts. By repeating your mantra out loud or silently within your own mind, it can help guide your thoughts to the right frame of mind to achieve your goal or task. For example, before speaking publicly, you may say “I am strong and I can do this” or “I believe in me.”

Examples of Personal Mantras

Your mantra can act as your personal slogan or philosophy. They can be words you want to live by. As a company has a slogan, you can have your personal slogan. Below are a few examples of company’s slogans or mantras.

Nike – “just do it.”

Kodak – “Share moments. Share life.”

Sony – “Make Believe.”

Creating a Personal Mantra

Take some time to sit in quiet and think about what you want your personal mantra to be about. After you have decided what you want your philosophy to be, find a quote by someone else or create your own quote that represents that philosophy. Usually a short powerful statement is best.

Examples

“Live, Love, Laugh”

“Carpe diem”

“Yesterday is not today”

“I am the change”

“Live Simply”,

“In me I trust”

“I can and I will”

“I write my destiny”

Live simply personal mantra

After you have decided on your personal mantra, write it down and read it frequently. Setting some time aside each day to truly absorb your mantra is the best way for it to become part of who you are and how you live your life. Use it as a reminder to stay true to what you truly feel inside. Use it whenever you start to doubt yourself, wonder whether you are capable of achieving your goals, or just want to keep your life heading in a positive direction.

Personal Development Plan

Personal Development Plan

A comprehensive personal development plan should have several key components. These components include self-discovery, a development plan, periodic evaluations, and a continuous improvement plan.

Arrows self development

Self Discovery

Self Discovery is the process of gaining a deep understanding of our own self, character, needs, values, and purpose in life.  It is a fundamental component of personal growth. Since we are all different in the way we think, feel, act, learn, and perceive the world, it is beneficial to take the time to reflect in order to gain a better insight into ourselves. Self discovery is a way for us to explore our individual personalities, natural preferences, values, beliefs, and dreams.

Development Plan

A personal Development Planis essentially turning your dreams into an action plan. A personal development Plan is a systematic approach to achieving your goals while building your personal effectiveness. It involves setting goals and crafting a structured plan for reaching those goals. In addition to goal setting, a successful plan involves enhancing skills and competencies. The key to any development plan is taking an action step toward the attainment of at least one goal every day.

Evaluation

Evaluation is the process of reviewing your actual results and comparing them against the development plan.  The goal evaluation is to determine what needs to be modified in order to achieve the goals that were set in the plan.  If adjustments need to be made to the plan, you can make those as you complete your evaluation.

Continuous Development

Core Dimension Dynamics™ is the philosophy, principle, and process that empowers us to grow and develop ourselves and our lives through continuous improvement. We must consciously spend time and energy honing ourselves and our skills to maintain and increase our effectiveness. Dynamic Core Dimensions incorporates all four facets of self; mind, body, heart and soul.

About Personal Development

Our programs typically begin with self-discovery then evolve into the creation of a plan in which you set goals for yourself. Through self-discovery and goal setting you will build the foundation upon which you will create your destiny.

During self-discovery you will learn what makes you happy, what you value, what talents you have, and what you want to achieve in life. After you have discovered where you are and what you want to achieve, you will create a plan to accomplish those goals. You continuously modify the plan as you develop your skills and obtain feedback.

By creating and accomplishing goals, you are able to measure and take pride in your achievement. The process of setting and accomplishing goals not only allows you to achieve more and improve your performance, but gives you focus while building your self-confidence and self-esteem. And self-esteem is the keystone for self-actualization and personal fulfillment.

Our Personal Development program has four components:

  • Self-Discovery
  • Self-Development
  • Self-Mastery
  • Self-Actualization

Self-Development: Self-Development is a process of consciously improving oneself in various aspects of his or her life. It is the conscious pursuit of personal growth by improving personal skills, competencies, talents, and knowledge in order to seek self-fulfillment and proactively reach your fullest potential.

Four Phases of Personal Development

Personal Development begins with self-discovery. You first must find out where you are in order to move on from there.  Self-Discovery allows you to gain a deep understanding of your own self, character, needs, values, and purpose in life. It also allows you to be more aware of your interests, hopes, dreams, and potential. Self-discovery involves taking time to deeply reflect on who you are, what you want to achieve, and the person you want to become.

After you discover who you are and where you are headed, you begin the self-development process by assessing your current skills and competencies. This involves gathering information about your aptitude, skills, competencies, and talents and critically reviewing them. This leads to the accumulation of self-knowledge. With self-knowledge you can understand your strengths, as well as identify areas where you would like to make improvements. It basically gives you the information needed to begin self-development.

About the Four Phases of Personal Development

Self-Development is the process of developing specific aspects of your mind and body. It is the pursuit of personal growth by enhancing your physical and mental skills, competencies, talents, and knowledge in order to seek self-fulfillment and proactively reach your fullest potential. Self-development is the actions leading to self-mastery and self-actualization.

Self-mastery is the ability to recognize, understand, control, and make the most out of your physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual self. It is gained thorough awareness, understanding, and control over thoughts, emotions, and actions. As your performance improves, your mastery of your skills and competencies also improve. As your skills improve, you achieve more and your self-confidence increases. An increased self-confidence leads to being happier and feeling more fulfilled in life. You ultimately reach self-actualization and realization of your full potential. As you reach self-actualization you are becoming everything that you are capable of becoming.

Self Development

Self-Development is a process of consciously improving oneself in various aspects of his or her life. It is the conscious pursuit of personal growth by improving personal skills, competencies, talents, and knowledge. However, the key component to self-development is the growth of one’s personal self in order to seek self-fulfillment and proactively reach your fullest potential.

PD Circle Self Development

Self-development and personal growth is a lifelong process which enables you to assess your abilities, to set goals, and then take action to help you to achieve those goals and to maximize your potential.  The ultimate goal of self-development is to be a self-fulfilled person. That means living consciously at your full potential and reaching true happiness in your life.

We divide self-development into three segments:

  1. Skill Enhancement
  2. Mental Conditioning
  3. Habit Creation

Self Development Segments

Skill Enhancement

Skill enhancement is the development of personal skills, abilities, and competencies. It encompasses both interpersonal and personal effectiveness skills. Interpersonal skills focuses on relationships and interactions with others. It includes how to communicate and work with others, as well as how to lead others. Personal effectiveness centers on skills that can be applied independent of other people. It includes skills such as goal setting, problem solving, time management, and stress management.

Mental Conditioning

Mental conditioning is the process of building and strengthening our minds. It allows us to maintain a positive focus on our goals and objectives through imagery, visualization, and other techniques. It also allows us to build positive images and feeling about ourselves to increase our self-image, self-esteem and self-confidence. Mental conditioning techniques encompasses relaxation to help relieve anxiety and tension to improve performance through better concentration and focus.

Habit Creation

Habit creation is the conscious establishment of behaviors or thoughts in an attempt to improve ourselves. Habits are those behaviors or tendencies that you do automatically without thinking or consciously intending. Our habits usually direct our actions, our reactions, our decision, and even our thoughts. The creation of positive habits can help you develop a more productive and enriched life.

The Process of Self Development

The process of self-development begins prior to any actual steps in the development of skills, talents, or competencies. It begins with self-awareness and self-discovery. You first must find out where you are in order to move on from there. Self-discovery gives you insightful understanding of your personality, values, tendencies, and beliefs. It also gives you insight into what you want to do or the person you want to become.

After you discover who you are and where you are headed, you begin the actual steps in the improvement process by assessing your current skills, talents, and competencies.

Self-assessment is the process of gathering information about one’s own aptitude, skills, competencies, and talents and critically reviewing the quality of his or her performance and abilities. Self-Assessment is different from self-awareness and self-discovery in that awareness and discovery is simply a recognition of something or knowing something exists. Assessment, on the other hand, is determining or measuring an amount, value, importance, extent, or rate of something.

After the completion of a self-assessment, you are better able to set and reach your goals. Self-assessment gives you the information needed to create an effective development plan. A development plan involves the making of goals or benchmarks that help define the path that you intend to follow. By knowing what specific skills you need to develop or work on, you are able to focus your attention on those skills and making yourself more proficient at them. You force yourself to focus on the acquisition of knowledge and to organize your resources, thus allowing you to become more organized and effective. As you become more effective, you can improve both your abilities and ultimately your performance.

As your performance increases, you achieve more and your self-confidence increases. An increased self-confidence leads to being happier and feeling more fulfilled in life. You ultimately reach self-actualization and realization of your full potential.

Self Development vs. Self Improvement

Although often used interchangeable, we like to differentiate self-development from self-improvement (or self-help). Unlike self-development, self-improvement usually is used to refer to something you do to improve an aspect of your life in which you are struggling. Basically, it highlights or emphasizes your weaknesses. For example, self-improvement topics may include building self-esteem, getting organized. These are all worthy improvements to one’s self, but the focus is on a person’s weakness (i.e. low self-esteem, unorganized, etc…), not a strength or good quality.

Self-development, on the other hand, focuses on personal growth in all aspects of your life. It targets areas of both strength and weakness. It does not just focus on areas of weaknesses. Self-development will address areas of weakness to make them less challenging, but is not the focus. It really focuses on building your talents and areas that interest you so that you reach your fullest potential and feel self fulfilled. For example, if you are really good at painting or music, self-development would help you to further develop that strength.

Self-development includes activities that improve skills, develop talents, build competencies, enhance quality of life, and ultimately contribute to the realization of dreams and aspirations.

Self-Actualization

Self Actualization

Self-Actualization is seeking personal growth through peak experiences in order to realize your fullest potential and reach self-fulfillment.  Self-actualization is often thought of or viewed as a destination or a process, but it is really a state of being.  It is when you can say, “I am being all that I am, and all that I was meant to be.”

We encourage people to seek and discover their destiny by seeking to discover themselves.  Self-actualization is what we hope you ultimately reach.  However, it is important to note that self-actualization is a continuous process of becoming rather than a final state of being that a person reaches and stays at.

Self-actualization

Dr. Abraham Maslow first coined the term “self-actualization.”  He believed human motivation is based on people seeking fulfillment and change through personal growth.  Self-actualized people are those who are self-fulfilled and doing all they are capable of doing and becoming all they are capable of becoming.  Dr. Maslow described self-actualization in the following way:

“A musician must make music, an artist must paint, a poet must write, if he is to be at peace with himself.  What a man can be, he must be.  This is the need we may call self-actualization… It refers to man’s desire for fulfillment, namely to the tendency for him to become actually in what he is potentially.  This tendency might be phrased as the desire to become more and more what one is, to become everything that one is capable of becoming.”

The need for personal growth is present throughout a person’s life.  For Maslow, a person is always “becoming” and never remains static.  Self-actualization is an ongoing process in which a person’s capacities are fully, creatively, and happily utilized.  Through personal growth, a person is able to accomplish great things, building upon confidence, competence, and abilities.  Eventually, in self-actualization, a person comes to find a meaning to life that is important to them.

Maslow believes there are two processes necessary for self-actualization:

  • self-exploration, and
  • action

The deeper the self-exploration, the closer one comes to self-actualization.  Our road to self-actualization starts with self-discovery, and then goes through self-development (personal growth) into self-mastery before reaching self-actualization.  Self-discovery is the explorations process, while self-development and self-mastery are the action segments.

PD circle Self Acualization

Journey and Destination

As indicated, self-actualization can be thought of both as an end and a process.  If you grow and develop in your daily life, you can become self-actualized.  Hence, it can be said that you reached your destination.  But self-actualization can also be perceived as a process because you do not arrive at a point in your life when you can say, “I am self-actualized.  I don’t need any more personal growth.”  You continue your personal growth and development even after you reach self-actualization.  Basically, personal growth is the means to self-actualization, but self-actualization is not the end to the means.

Self-actualization can be thought in relation to a journey through the woods.  The journey represents your life.  As you travel down the path of life, you have experiences, and from these experiences you learn and grow.  If you walk or wander slowly without taking notices of your surroundings, you can limit your personal growth.  You can also limit your personal growth by running through the path too fast and not paying attention, and potentially getting lost for a while.

If you move at a steady pace focusing on your surroundings and learning from your experiences, you will move in the direction of self-actualization.  Because of your focus and continuous personal growth, you reach a river long the path.  You may continue to take the path, or you can continue to your destination using a boat to take you down the river.  The boat represents self-actualization.  Basically, you have reached the destination of self-actualization.  However, you are also still traveling along your path of personal growth, but doing it with comfort and ease.  You are in the “flow” experience.  If you do not take the boat, and keep walking, you will not be self-actualized.  You will still have personal growth, but not self-actualization.

The Odyssey

Personal Development Plan

Your odyssey begins…

Life is a journey, and Destiny Odyssey™ is about creating your destiny for that journey.  The odyssey begins with understanding oneself then determining what you want to achieve in life and the person you want to become.  After thoughtful reflection, you craft a personal mission statement as well as a vision statement that reveals who you are and who you want to be.  The mission statement is a brief statement as to your purpose in life.  A vision statement is your narrative description of where you see yourself in the future; who you will become and what you will achieve.

After determining your purpose and direction, you assess and measure your current skills, abilities, and competencies to help determine what you may need to develop.  You then design a strategic plan that includes habits you wish to establish and goals you want to achieve.  You then systematically implement the plan periodically evaluating your results.

The odyssey is divided to eight segments.  Each segment is designed to assist you on your journey from self discovery to personal fulfillment.

 Odyssey

Self Discovery

Self Discovery is the process of gaining a deep understanding of our own self, character, needs, values, and purpose in life.  It also allows an individual to be more aware of his or her interests, hopes, dreams, and potential.

Self Discovery

Elements of Self Discovery

A Mission Statement

A Mission Statement is an individual statement that declares your purpose in life.  It is like a personal credo or philosophy.  It is typically a single sentence or a brief paragraph that incorporates who you want to be, what your life is about, and the values or principles upon which your life is based.

Crafting your personal mission statement

A Vision Statement

A Vision Statement is about how you picture your future to be and about the person you want to be become.  Unlike a mission statement that is a personal credo or philosophy, a vision statement is a depiction of where you see yourself in the future.  A Mission is akin to the direction you plan to travel and the road you plan to take, while a vision is where you see yourself eventually ending up as well as what you will experience along the journey.  Some people will describe his or her vision in great detail, highlighting where they will be professionally, financially, spiritually, and physically.  Other people will simply describe one main aspect of his or her life such as career or family.

Crafting your vision statement

Self-Assessment

Self-assessment is the process of gathering information about ones own aptitude, skills, competencies, and talents and critically reviewing the quality of ones performance and abilities.  Self-assessment allows us to recognize our potential and what we have to do to achieve that potential.  Through the self-assessment process, we recognize our strengths and acknowledge our weaknesses to open ourselves to addressing them to make us a better person.

Self Assessment Process

Strategic Development Plan

A personal Strategic Development Plan is essentially turning your Vision Statement into an action plan.  Our Strategic Development Plan is a systematic approach to achieving your goals while building your personal effectiveness.  It involves setting tangible goals and crafting a structured plan for reaching those goals.  In addition to goal setting, our strategic development process involves crafting a plan for enhancing skills and competencies as well as creating positive habits in your daily life.  The strategic plan will also include elements of mental conditioning to help build self-esteem, self-confidence, and other positive mental attitudes.

Strategic Development Plan

Action

The key to peak performance and maximum achievement is believing in yourself and taking an action step toward the attainment of at least one goal every day.

Evaluation

Evaluation is the process of reviewing your actual results and comparing them against the strategic plans.  Its goal is to determine what needs to be modified in order to achieve the goals that were set in the strategic plan.

Core Dimensions Dynamics™

Core Dimension Dynamics™ is the philosophy, principle, and process that empowers us to grow and develop ourselves and our lives through continuous improvement.  We must consciously spend time and energy honing ourselves and our skills to maintain and increase our effectiveness.  Dynamic Core Dimensions incorporates all four facets of self; mind, body, heart and soul.
